Single-parent families can be defined as families where a parent lives with dependent children, either alone or in a larger household, without a spouse or partner. There was a rapid and drastic increase in the number of single-parent families in the last period. This change has been used by some to argue that we are witnessing the breakdown of the family, defined as a married couple residing with their dependent offspring with negative effects for children, families and society. Indeed single parent families are at a higher risk of poverty than couple families, and on average single mothers have poorer health than couple mothers. Many factors influence how children develop in single-parent families: the parent\'s age, education level, and occupation; the family\'s income, and the family\'s support network of friends and extended family members (including the non-resident parent, if available).
For a comprehensive understanding of the live and need of single parent families in Romania  it is important to plan and construct a broad policy for improvement of single parent families’s life quality.
